Located in the north west of the island, the area known as Klong Yai Kee has just three places to stay.
Shortly after the Klong Yai Kee waterfall, Bann Makok the Getaway, is hidden away deep in the mangroves, 8 rooms only, all in the 3,000bt to 3,500bt range, blissfully peaceful.
A short kayak away to the sea and the exquisite Captain Hook Resort, accessible only by boat, sits on a secluded cape, with rooms starting at 5,000bt but going far higher. The two resorts share the tiny Palm Beach.
Continuing further north, the 5 star luxurious Soneva Kiri sits at the very end of the road. The resort prides itself on its exclusivity, especially given the A-List standing of some of their guests, so you can go inside without prior appointment. Rooms are from 45,000bt a night. If you come by speedboat to Koh Kood, the yellow livery of the rooms and buildings are clearly visible on the hillside.
